In "When Did Carcharocles megalodon Become Extinct? A New Analysis of the Fossil Record." Catalina Pimiento and Christopher F.
Clements they claimed that Megalodon vanished from existence around 3.5 ma. They have even thought out thorough mathematical equations to help support their research and what they believe is right.

In "The giant bite of a new raptorial sperm whale from the Miocene epoch of Peru." Olivier Lambert,  olambert@mnhn.fr, Giovanni
Bianucci, bianucci@dst.unipi.it ,
Post, Klaas, Christian de Muizon, Rodolfo Salas-Gismondi, Mario Urbina, Jelle Reumer say that a Physeter Macrocephalus was found in Peru with a with a large amount of flesh missing from it, and it seems as if it were from a single bite. This would be impossible with any of today’s modern sea animals. Not even the great white could have caused damage of this magnitude.

This is a photo of Dr. Jeremiah Clifford, who specializes in fossil reconstruction. In his hand is a mandible of a large Carcharodon carcharias (great white shark.) And what is surrounding Dr. Clifford is not a movie prop; it is the mandible of Carcharocles Megalodon.

Carcharocles megalodon's skeleton.

In the green you see Carcharodon carcharias at a length of what seems to be an impressive 18 feet, a monster in the modern world. And in the red we have Carcharocles megalodon with a length of approximately 54 feet.
